One attribute that leading accounts payable professionals share is an expanded view of the accounts payable function, often to include the procure-to-pay process. “You want to take a broader look than just AP, and look at the end-to-end process you’re supporting,” says Kurt Albertson, director of advisory services with consulting firm REL. For instance, while AP traditionally has managed vendor master information, these professionals may lead a drive to standardize other data categories, such as contract master data. Or, they may look at ways that the AP department can enhance working capital management.
